With this piece, I took the concept of the yad (Torah scroll pointer) and made it more ergonomic. Instead of a wand one grips, it’s a piece that wraps around the hand and curls onto one’s actual pointer finger. A “key” is used to lock the yad into place. When locked, a Star of David is formed at the center. The key itself is the Hebrew word “Eitz (עץ),” and the band that wraps around the hand is “Chaim (החים).” (Eitz HaChaim is another name for the Torah.) The palm section is in the shape of the letter Shin (ש), which is commonly used as a symbol in Judaica.
